Welcome to the Steely Dan Reader, formerly called the Steely Dan Internet Resource. This site is home to more than four decades of interviews, profiles and concert reviews of Steely Dan and its founders, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. We also maintain the text archives of Metal Leg, the great newsletter that from 1987 through 1994 was the best way to keep up with the band during its hibernation.
Created on Nov. 23, 1995, this site’s only purpose is to share information about the band with its friends and fans. This is not a commercial site; we do not charge readers to visit. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. We are not associated with the band or its members.
If you know of a Steely Dan-related article that you don’t see published here, let us know so we can share it with others. If you are a copyright holder and object to your story or photo being published here, we would be happy to link instead to your stories, photos, videos, etc., on your own site. Just write to us at steelydanreader@gmail.com and let us know.
Special thanks for support:
- to longtime friend and fellow addict Jim McKay, whose Dandom.com Blue Book and Facebook page are the places to exchange bons mots with fellow Dan fans,
- to Pete Fogel, the former editor of the late great Metal Leg newsletter, who, way back in the early days of the web gave permission to archive the publication. Pete has created a historical Steely Dan photo album for the web at his own site.
- and to Steely Dan drummers fans, wherever you may be!
Welcome back! Great to have those Metal Legs back online.
I can not thank you enough for bringing back the Steely Dan Internet Resource. as The Steely Dan Reader. It has been a research place for and about the band, and of course the drummers.
Thank You , Thank You..
Hava Nice Day…

In 2018 ng_reader felt nostalgic seeing the year 1993 and Internet AND Steely Dan in the same search results.
Ahh Nostalgia. Kamakiriad was the input. Becker and Fagen twin sons of different mothers.
